New Book Release - WILL CHINA FAIL?
26 Oct 07
China's rise has been a significant driver of growth for the global economy. But is the excitement and optimism about China's rise justified? Urging us to look beyond the hype, John Lee, Managing Director of L21, takes a sober look at what is actually occurring within the world's most populous country – what is really keeping Chinese leaders awake at night. In his new book, Dr. Lee says that China's impressive year on year growth figures hide some frightening truths. China's economy – in which the most important sectors are still controlled by the regime - is sick and failing. The regime is doing what it takes to preserve their hold on power – but at enormous cost to the country and its people. In Will China Fail?, Dr. Lee looks at the profound and mounting contradictions, tensions, and dysfunctions within Chinese economy and society – including between the regime, the military, and people - and why it is getting worse despite China's impressive growth statistics. Will China Fail? serves as a timely warning against our well-intentioned 'China blindness' and offers a compelling case for the likelihood of turmoil and turbulent times ahead for the Chinese people.

Love her or hate her, 'Paris Hilton' is one of the most valuable personal brands in the world. Her attempts to 'rebrand' herself following her brief time in jail is a case of personal rebranding in action. In this edition of Worth Noting, we thought we would take a brief look at the personal branding issues facing Paris Hilton.

Worth Noting Special Book Review

Rudolph Giuliani is a leading Republican candidate for the 2008 American Presidential elections. He, of course, gain widespread praise for his leadership in his handling of the chaos and trauma following September 11; but also for his record of reform during his tenure as Mayor of New York City and his largely successful efforts to clean up and revitalized the city. We have decided to offer an updated review (and also criticism) of Giuliani's book Leadership. In our opinion, Leadership is not only an essential read for leaders of all organizations; but it could be the manuscript of a future American President. In typical Giuliani style, Leadership does simply present a glorification of his achievements (although it does do that in some parts,) but tackles some controversial issues and strategies to overcome the challenges faced by a New York mayor.
